FINESSE FACTOR IN BALLOCH,HELLER SGS VICTORIES

(01/14/2010) Two weeks ago,the SCORE corps was exceptional in its display of finesse. This time around, that finesse was a rarer commodity. It was, however,a factor in deciding the winners of the USAC dirt champ/sprint car double-header at the South Gate Speedrome Wednesday night.

Dave Balloch sped to victory in the 75 lap dirt champ event by a seven point margin as the top guns in the division accumulated a rash of miscues. Chuck Heller crashed out of the final segment to take the runner-up spot while Homer Hiester, with seven wrecks, was third.. Mike Lengel's eight mishaps relegated him to fifth in the event and dropped him into second place in the point standings.

The USAC sprint nightcap was a better example of SCORE racing at the Reading bullring with relatively few wrecks in the 50 lapper. Lengel rode a two point lead going into the last segment, but could only muster a fourth place in the coda while Heller took first after the two battled side-by-side much of the round. Hiester earned third in a tie-breaker over Balloch.
