LENGEL LARGE ON LAST NIGHT;WINS TWO,"CLASSIC",SPRINT TITLE

(5/20/09) It was a night all racers should have at least once in their careers. Going into last Wednesday's season-ending "Flying Dutchman Classic",Mike Lengel had a tiny one point lead over Chuck Heller in the USAC sprint car title chase. Once the green dropped at South Gate, "Iron Mike" took off and never looked back. Lengel won both 40 lap mains, the 11th annual "Classic",and the 2008-09 SCORE USAC sprint car championship. His outstanding performance capped an already banner campaign for the long-time racer.

Though Lengel earned the double victory, the small field pressured him throughout the evening. Dave Balloch recorded his 14th runner-up finish of the season as he trailed Lengel by a point in the first feature. Heller saw his title quest come to an end with a third in the event. Kerry Breon,Sr. managed to keep pace throughout the second main, however, the Birdsboro ace acquired three miscues to be relegated to the "place" position two markers behind. Balloch collected third in the final race of the season.
